Mitu Ranjan Sarker received his BSc and MSc in Fisheries from the University of Chittagong (CU). He was nominated for the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal (2020) for his outstanding academic performances at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, University of Chittagong. Presently, he is serving the University of Chittagong in permanent lecturer position to the Institute of Marine Sciences. Before joining the University of Chittagong, he worked as a research associate to several national and international projects, funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology (GoB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). These projects assessed the aquatic biodiversity and their roles on community livelihood for formulating management plans to protect environmental integrity and social welfare.
Mitu’s research interests span in the field of fisheries oceanography including the stock assessment of deep sea fisheries. Particularly, he is interested in investigating the migratory behavior of marine pelagic fishes for Bay of Bengal regions. Currently, Mitu is leading a project that aims to develop induce breeding technology for reef associated ornamental marine fishes.
Moreover, he is working in the OiLAB mariculture research group, who are investigating the development of offshore marine cage and onshore raceway production systems for promoting sustainable marine fish production in Bangladesh.
