MD Talif Mia

Student

MD. Talif Mia is a fourth-year BSc (Hons) student at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in the field of biological oceanography. Particularly, he is interested in understanding the eco-morphological responses of coastal ecosystems (e.g. coral, seagrass, saltmarsh and mangroves) in changing climate. Currently, he has been engaged in aquatic health assessment for coral inhibiting St. Martin’s Island MPA and mangrove dominated Sundarban ecosystems, which are known as most valuable habitats for many coastal and marine species in northern Bay of Bengal regions. He is investigating the environmental factors that drive primary productivity and plankton distribution for those ecosystems.
Talif is skilled at using various software tools, including Python, PAST, Photoshop, Illustrator, and ArcGIS. He participated in research cruises for Sundarban coastal waters that addressed the impact of Rampal Power Plant on coastal biodiversity. Talif wishes to contribute to sustainable management of ECAs and MPAs providing scientific insights and policy guidelines through his research.
