Istiaq Ahmad Chowdhury has been working as a Lecturer at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong, since 2023. He is a forward-thinking marine scientist and aquaculture specialist continues to inspire the next generation of marine scientists while driving forward his mission of sustainable aquaculture practices through his groundbreaking research and strategic leadership.
Md Royhanur Islam has an extensive academic background in marine sciences, specializing in applied marine ecology and conservation, as well as several years of experience in extracting seaweed agar, developing industrial production lines for commercial use, and formulating agar-derived products for industrial purposes, specifically for food, feed, and cosmeceuticals.
Shahinur Akter is working for the University of Chittagong as a lecturer in the Department of Oceanography. Her research interests span issues in the field of marine biotechnology. Particularly, she is interested to investigate the marine natural product chemistry and marine microbial ecology in changing climate for their potential pharmaceutical and other industrial applications to promote blue economy of the country.
Ummay Tahura serves University of Chittagong in the tenure track position at the Department of Oceanography. Her interests lie in the field of physical oceanography. Particularly, she is investigating the ocean hydrodynamic forces and their variations due to monsoonal climate that shape the coastal geo-morphology of the north-eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal.
Ummeh Iffat is working for University of Chittagong as a Lecturer in the Department of Oceanography. She achieved MS degree in Oceanography from the Department of Oceanography under National Science and Technology Fellowship (NST) program and BSc in Marine Science from the Institute of Marine Sciences as a merit scholar to University of Chittagong.
Mitu Ranjan Sarker received his BSc and MSc in Fisheries from the University of Chittagong (CU). He was nominated for the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal (2020) for his outstanding academic performances at the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, University of Chittagong. Presently, he is serving the University of Chittagong in permanent lecturer position to the Institute of Marine Sciences.
Md. Zahid Hasan Nahid obtained his BSc in Marine Sciences from the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) and MS in Oceanography from the Department of Oceanography at the University of Chittagong. His research interests span a wide range of topics in physical oceanography.
Mohammad Forkanul Hamid is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Fisheries at the University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in the field of marine biology. Particularly, he is investigating the coral and their associated habitats for understating the ecological interactions among organisms and the surrounding environment.
Fazilatun Nesa is currently pursuing her second MSc in Aquaculture and Marine Resource Management at Wageningen University and Research in The Netherlands. She obtained her BSc and first MSc at the University of Chittagong (Bangladesh), where she established a solid foundation in Marine Sciences.
Monisha Das is pursuing her MSc degree at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. She obtained her BSc, major in Marine Science from the same institute. Her research interests span issues in the field of physical oceanography. Particularly, she is investigating to better understand the dynamic coastal processes and interactions that shape and modify coastlines through the actions of waves, tides, and currents.
Saidul Afnan is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Marine Sciences at the University of Chittagong, where he previously completed his Bachelor’s degree in the same major. His research interest spans in the field of physical oceanography.
Sazzad Ahmed Bhuiyan is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. His research interest focuses on the fields of oceanography, with a particular emphasis on the seafloor settings and biophysical processes that are shaping benthic comminutes.
Aisharja Chowdhury is a senior undergraduate student in the University off Chittagong, who is taking her major in Marine Science at the Institute of Marine Sciences. Her research interests lie in the field of oceanography. Particularly, she is interested in understanding the environmental functions of the tropical coastal habitats.
Mahmuda Akter Popy is currently pursuing her BSc in Marine Sciences at the University of Chittagong. Her research interests lie in the field of marine biotechnology to promote the blue economy of the country.
Sadia Osman Lorin is in the final year of her undergraduate studies at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. Her research interests encompass the domains of biological oceanography including coastal ecological engineering.
Kifaet Wahid Polok is an undergraduate Marine Science student, focused on studying sharks and rays in unique marine environment. With a deep passion for marine biodiversity, Polok has spent a couple of years conducting field research on the habitat preferences, feeding behaviors, and ecological roles of elasmobranch species (sharks and rays) in this biologically rich yet fragile ecosystem and fish landing sites in Bangladesh.
MD. Talif Mia is a fourth-year BSc (Hons) student at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in the field of biological oceanography. Particularly, he is interested in understanding the eco-morphological responses of coastal ecosystems (e.g. coral, seagrass, saltmarsh and mangroves) in changing climate.
Asad Chowdhury Rafi is an undergraduate student majoring in Marine Science at University of Chittagong. His primary research interest lies in coastal and marine aquaculture as he has always been passionate about sustainable food production systems that can help meet global food demands while preserving aquatic environments.
Kazi Md. Safayet Shabab is an enthusiastic student in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Science (Honors) program at the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS), University of Chittagong. He has keen interest in the field of oceanography. Particularly, he is investigating the physical factors that regulate the biological performances and ecological succession of corals and their associate species in turbid marine ecosystems.
Mahmudul Hasan is currently pursuing his BSc degree in Marine Sciences at University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in the field of coastal and marine aquaculture. Particularly, he is interested to contribute in technological advancement for enhancing coastal and marine fisheries production that reduce pressure on wild catches and promote the blue economy of the country.
Arifur Rahaman is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Chittagong. His research interest focuses on the fields of marine biology, with a particular emphasis on the understanding of the impact on marine life corresponding to the changing pattern of ocean ecosystems.
Md. Maruf Hossain Chowdhury is a senior bachelor’s student studying marine science at the University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in Physical Oceanography focusing on ocean hydrodynamics including geo-physical processes that help to understand currents, wave dynamics, and sea surface conditions of the Bay of Bengal.
Sumaiya Akter Popy is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences at the University of Chittagong. She has a keen interest in remote sensing through satellite imageries of ocean surface, particularly its application to the field of physical oceanography.
Md. Mahfujur Rahman is going to finish his BSc program major in Marine Sciences at University of Chittagong in 2025. He is interested to conduct his research and higher study in the field of physical oceanography. Particularly, he is curious to develop ocean based technology for power generation from renewable energy sources utilizing the hydro-dynamic nature of Bangladesh coast.
