OILAB has formulated multiple research programs to address the effect of monsoonal climate on ocean hydrodynamics and biological settings in the northern Bay of Bengal. The lab has selected two ecosystems: (1) estuarine Moheshkhali Channel; and (2) offshore St. Martin’s Island MPA for monitoring hydro-biological changes through Coastal and Ocean Observation System (COOS). OILAB has initiated science-driven COOS development program to develop sensor based COOS prototype that will delivers real-time data to address critical science questions regarding the monsoonal effects on coastal and marine ecosystems. OILAB already has developed ocean observing and modeling lab with necessary computing and data storing facilities for remote controls. Additionally, OILAB has been collecting onboard ocean-atmospheric data following a belt-transect along the ~250 km coastlines in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh coast periodically. It also have annual cruise plan for rivers and coastal waters adjacent the Sundarbans and Swatch of No-Ground (SoNG).
