One of the aims of the OILAB is to create and store geo-spatial primary data base to support the ocean investigations from the northern Bay of Bengal regions. Moreover, the lab has launched a special program for digitizing and storing historical data from published articles, books, reports and ocean surveys. Inspiring by the digital technology in accelerating ocean research, and seamless data retrieval, OILAB has built an ocean data repository using FTP Server for securely storing, retrieving, and remotely or over local network (LAN) for accessing research data.
The FTP server is hosted on highly configured repurposed PCs with static IP connection for 24 hours. This server ensures the data availability and open access to lab members and collaborating groups for efficient teamwork and sharing knowledge.
