Mohammad Forkanul Hamid is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Fisheries at the University of Chittagong. His research interests lie in the field of marine biology. Particularly, he is investigating the coral and their associated habitats for understating the ecological interactions among organisms and the surrounding environment. He received vast experiences in taxonomic study of marine fishes and invertebrates through participating in a series of marine biological survey programs across the Bangladesh coasts, conducted by the OiLAB.
Currently, he is involved with OiLAB taxonomy and systematic group who conduct marine biological expeditions for exploring and discovering marine life from northern Bay of Bengal. Moreover, he has been working in the ‘Coral Habitat and Ecological Assessment Project’ as research associate that aims to develop and implement appropriate conservation and management strategies to restore the health of the coral communities and associated habitats in the St. Martin’s Island MPA. This work emphasized his interest in coral restoration for revitalizing marine biodiversity in the region.
Moreover, Forkan also serves as an Onboard Observer for the Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project (SCMFP), a World Bank-funded initiative under the Marine Fisheries Department in Chittagong. In this capacity, he plays a vital role in the sustainable management of marine resources, addressing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and ensuring compliance with national and international regulations. He looks forward to using his expertise in research and development to positively impact marine conservation and the health of aquatic ecosystems.
