Md. Zahid Hasan Nahid obtained his BSc in Marine Sciences from the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) and MS in Oceanography from the Department of Oceanography at the University of Chittagong. His research interests span a wide range of topics in physical oceanography. Currently, he is investigating the complex interaction between coastal dynamics, geomorphological processes, and coastal ecosystems through advanced remote sensing techniques for better understanding marine environments and their responses to both natural and anthropogenic influences.
Nahid worked in a Dutch consortium as research associate through a project that introduced the concept ‘Building with Nature’ in Bangladesh and developed a nature based technology using eco-engineering tools to protect south-eastern coastal areas of Bangladesh from erosion. Moreover, this study also monitored the hydro-dynamics forces that influence the eco-morphology of the near shore islands, located in the south-eastern parts of Bangladesh. He was also involved in the oceanographic survey along the Patuakhali
coast, conducted by an IMS research group that assessed the impact of thermal power plants and monitored the natural habitat including migratory routes of Hilsa to formulate a management plan as policy guidelines to the government through WorldFish. At present, Nahid is actively working with the OiLAB delta research group who are investigating the eco-morphological processes along with hydrodynamics that are shaping the delta system in northern Bay of Bengal regions.
